Hi group,
I was trying to install macromedia flash player 7 on linux and during
installation it asks me where Mozilla has been installed. and after I
ran find I found out it is located at /usr/lib/mozilla path so it is
completed but when I go back to the browser and surf a flash page it
complained that flash is not installed so this time I followed the
easy way which by click on an icon it got installed but the worse
part is even after than there is yellow bar on top of my browswer
that says "Additional plugins are required to display all the media
on this page"!!!!!!
so I clicked on "Install Missing Plugins..." which was on the browser
and still it can not show even one asset of it. WHY?
On what version of Linux?
The plugins were probably put into /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, but you
need to copy them to /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox*/plugins.
Thanks,
Thanks for your help but it didn't work I tried all directories under
mozilla/ but nothing makes it happy!
What do you mean "I tried" ? Tried what?
The stuff is put into the plugins directory under one of the mozilla.
Otherwise just copy the flashplayer.xpt and libflashplayer.so files into
the /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox*/plugins directory.
find /usr/lib/ -name \*flash\*
will tell you everwhere that something with the name flashplayer in it
resides. You need to put it into your mozilla-firefox*/plugins directory.
under /usr/lib/mozilla/ I have three directories such as mono/
mozilla/ and mozilla-1.7.12 and I tried the last two ones and
nothing!!!!!!!
I already had problem with madwifi which is really mad thing and made
me mad and never gonna work and now with this flash thing.
Just relax. For example you still have not told us which distro you use.
Instead of emmoting, tell us as much info as you can.
I cannot understand why every version of linux goes its own way so when
are they going to be the same? they say for suse do this for redhat do
that and if you are using gentoo then you have get some other books or
read a special FAQ to make it work (if it work...) this is just time
consuming to search till find out what is good for this box or that
box!!
Because each distro feels that the way they do things is better.
And when you refuse to tell us what system you use, you make us
frustrated, and unwilling to help you.
Thanks anyway
I did copy those two files to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and
.../mozilla-1.7.12/ and when I go to check a page with flash components
it is like before. it only shows a puzzle logo with a bar on top
"Additional plugins are required to dispaly all the media on this page"
then there is button as "Install missing plugins".
|
After you get your plugins copied where you want them,
quit mozilla, go to your home directory's .mozilla directory
( ~/.mozilla ) and delete the pluginreg.dat file and
restart mozilla. mozilla will rebuild the pluginreg.dat
file from scratch. In some situations that helps,
you can also put the plugins into ~/.mozilla/plugins
but those plugins then would not be available to other
users other than your user.

The inconvenience is just yours, you could have gotten much
faster help probably with out even taking the time to write down
your question.

Use '/sbin/lspci' it can be meaningless to Linux what doze thinks
there is or not.
Iirc, you shouldn't need anything, chances are big anaconda has
already set it up and it can be configured from
system-config-network, presuming you want a GUI.
Good luck
BTW
It's usually a good idea to open a new question with a new
thread, not anyone will read through this thread presuming that
you might later have problems configuring your wlan card.

I totally forgot about it. I'm using Fedora 5.
You should always include such important info in your OP.
From a short look (STFW) there numerous howto:
http://home.gagme.com/greg/linux/fc5-tips.php
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/html_single/Fedora-Multimedia-Installation-HOWTO/
Iirc, there is one or another plugin that doesn't work with 64bit
browser, though you can install the 32bit browser version and use
that. Again you sadly fail to give the information.
Anyway, be my guest. Scroll down a bit and read our frequently
posted new reader FAQ:

you're new here (FAQ)"

Might be a silly question, but are you sure you restarted mozilla after
installing flash? What do you have in your /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
directory?
