I have a Dell C510/C610 (running Ubuntu Dapper Drake) whose
trackpoint sucks : it randomly locks on a random direction for a few
times and then comes back right. [So] I'd like to drop that device,
but my problem is that I don't have any idea how to tell Xorg to only
listen at the touchpad... (and what device is only the touchpad?)
By the way, both touchpad and trackpoint are managed by the psmouse
module.

This is fairly common on laptops that have both Trackpoint and touchpad.
Both devices show up as a PS/2-connected device. There is probably no
xorg.conf option to select between the 2 devices, because X doesn't
*see* any difference in the events sent.

Maybe the Trackpoint's dirty? Remove the rubber nub and clean it and
the little post under the nub. Or, go into your machine's BIOS Setup,
and look in there for an option called "Disable Trackpoint". My IBM
T42p has "disable Trackpoint" and "disable touchpad". (I said N to the
first and Y to the second... touchpads are an utter PITA IMHO.) Anyway,
HTH, bonne chance....

They were nothing in the bios, then I took a small piece of paper and I
put it into the keyboard's connector to disable trackpoint's contacts,
and then it's working fine. Thanks all for your help

Clean the ball and rollers (*not* with something sharp!) for the
trackpoint - I have to do it about once a year. Fingernails/fingers
work good for worrying the gunk off the rollers.

Trackpoints have rollers? The ones I've seen (IBM Thinkpad 380D, 600X,
A22p, T42p, a number of Toshibas) have a metal post with a textured
rubber cap. Pressure sensors read X and Y info off the post, custom
firmware translates that data into a PS/2 (or IMPS/2) data stream.

Trackballs went out sometime in the mid/late 1990s IIRC. I think it was
because the balls and rollers kept getting gunked up and people hated
that.

Ok, I found the file's device and how to tell Xorg to listen on it. But
it seems the trackpoint interfer with the touchpad. Is any way to
psysicaly turn that device off ?
