Yes, you did something wrong.

Or there's something wrong at the website. Could be the person that set
up the repository hasn't taken the steps required to make it suitable
for 10.1[0].
[0] Versions upto 9.3 didn't require createrepo, and I'm not sure if
10.0 really does[1], nor did they complain about unsigned content and
repomd.xml files, if you did use createrepo.
[1] Without stripping out the repodata directory, I can't say either
way. I can't recall if I added the calling of createrepo during the 10.0
beta-testing, or during the 10.1 alpha/beta-testing[2].
[2] My guess is during the 10.1 betas where Novell partially broke YaST.

Could be. Who knows. Without any real information, we an only guess. The
OP just posted a 'It does not work, what now?' posting.

If you get it the updater, please let me know. |

Thanks you. It does accept it, but it reports that the novell-zmd
service can't be started. I know I enabled it in the services-management
and when I start a terminal and type 'zmd' there's no report or message
of something going worng. Any idea what I can do about this? |

Ok, thank you. I experience a problem however. Apart from libzypp, many
other updates are selected as well. I updated anyway, and after updating
end up (again) with the message that ZMD doesn't run and all updates are
still be selected to be applied. Should I deselect everything else and
update? |

Update: I installed libzypp, but how do I restart zen-updater from the
desktop? If I just start it, I get the message "ZMD not running".
Thanks,

Found some more info. Both zen-updater and zmd are both installed.
Problem remains that zmd very consistenly "appears no to be running",
which causes zen-updater to fail as well. So far, I have not found a
solution. More ideas and suggestions are welcome. BTW: I'm not a linux
newbie, just a SUSE newbie.
Thanks,

I can't help you there. I don't use it. I just use YaST and that works
great.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, this is one of the services that doesn't
have an rc file created upon installation. Instead, you'll need to use
the full name for the start-up script:
/etc/rc.d/novell-zmd start
Of course, before doing that you may want to check if it's running by
using:
/etc/rc.d/novell-zmd status
