Simh for IRIX for download...
|
|
|
Dear SGI addicted,
for those who are interested in vintage computing
the following might be interesting: I compiled the
SIMH emulator for SGI's IRIX platform (6.3.22 or
later). Get it using the following link:
http://www.baigar.de/irix/Simh-V35-2.tardist
The emulator simulates vintage hardware like
VAX, IBM1401, PDP8, PDP11, ... on your IRIX
box and you are able to run vintage software on
your workstation. For details check the very
nice and complete homepage of SIMH at
http://simh.trailing-edge.com/
There you will find documentation, FAQs and
lot of software prebundeled to run on simh. This
excellent emulator is a must for every vintage
computing fan...
The tardist installs the following executables
in /usr/local/bin: altair altairz80 eclipse gri
h316 hp2100 i1401 i1620 ibm1130 id16 id32 lgp
nova pdp1 pdp10 pdp11 pdp15 pdp4 pdp7 pdp8 pdp9
s3 sds vax vax780. Documentation (text files)
is stored in /usr/local/doc/simh. Currently the
ethernet support is not turned on in the binaries.
To run e.g. Data General's RDOS one needs the
nova_rdosswre.tar.Z from SIMH's homepage. After
starting the "nova" in the directory where
rdos_d31.dsk is located first attach the disk
to the disk image:
att dp0 rdos_d31.dsk
Than fire up the nova via
set tti dasher
boot dp0
Press return to start with an empty Filename and
after entering date and time (not Y2k compliant,
e.g. date 06/06/85 and time 12:34:55) you have
RDOS up and running (prompt "R"). List the contents
of the simulated disk e.g. via "list/e"...
Best regards and have fun,
Erik. |
