ISP smtp auth - hobbyist PMDF
|
|
|
Sending mail out directly from a dynamic IP address provided by an ISP is
not a good idea nowadays because of lists such as MAPS DUL or SORBS DUHL.
However some ISPs require users to use SMTP AUTH to connect to their
central mailhub before allowing mail to be sent out.
This isn't generally a problem with most modern mail clients.
However can PMDF be configured in a "firewall configuration" so that all mail
is sent out via the ISPs mailhub and also such that a username and password can
be configured with the outgoing channel so that PMDF provides the username and
password in response to the ISP mailhub's SMTP Auth query.
I see this as mostly being a hobbyist system requirement (though there might be
some commercial setups which could make use of it as well) and hence PMDF may
well not currently support any method of doing this.
This is currently for me a theoretical question since my ISP hasn't yet
implemented a requirement for SMTP AUTH.
