g++: Internal error: Segmentation fault (program ld)
|
|
|
I've compiled lots of software on this box without any problem, but get
this in the very last stage of compilation (-o finalProgName) today.
Any ideas what I can do to troubleshoot? I don't know much about linker
issues. Platform is mac68k. I need to configure this machine for mail
to be able to do the send-pr.
Thanks,

Internal errors are usually bad news. Try building that software package
again. I suspect a memory-related problem. If I am wrong, the package
will fail at the same stage, if not it will build or fail at another
stage. Just a guess, but "internal compiler errors" are usually a matter
of broken memory modules. Compilers are very good tools to check the
quality of memory modules, if you cannot run memtest86 (and certainly
you can't on a mac68k) compile a large program.
Let us know if the program builds now or fails at another stage.
Cheers,
Igor. |

The largest I've built is gcc 3.4.4, probably, and that's quite a bit
larger than the one I'm working on now. I've built quite a few packages
now - I host an unofficial collection of binaries for NetBSD/mac68k -
without problem. Repeated compilation attempts with this have failed at
the same place, though.
