I have now tried two motherboards both with a SIS chipset and the
integrated NIC seems to have quite a bit of trouble with OpenBSD.

sis0 at pci0 dev 4 function 0 "SIS 900 10/100BaseTX" rev 0x91: irq 11,
address 00:01:6c:a3:60:59

# ifconfig sis0
sis0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
address: 00:01:6c:a3:60:59
media: Ethernet 100baseTX full-duplex
status: active
inet 192.168.0.252 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255
inet6 fe80::201:6cff:fea3:6059%sis0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1

When sending large files through this NIC, it freezes for a good few
minutes and stops all traffic. Also, when using SSH, input seems to
"hiccup" i.e. there are short pauses when typing text.
I have tried playing with the media settings thinking it was an autoneg
problem, but no luck.

I forgot to mention that this is on
OpenBSD 3.6-stable (NEWGATE) #0: Tue Mar 22 23:14:17 PST 2005
The machine is configured as a gateway with two other rl0 and rl1 NICs
which have no problem.

Yes, I remember reporting the same scenario back in the days when version
3.2 was state-of-the-art. I do not remember exactly which group I asked to,
might have been some freebsd group as well, but the solution turned to be
kicking the sis900 chip (el cheapo crap etc.) and sticking to the realteks.

Regeards,
Dorian
