My new OpenBSD 3.6 snapshot (uname -a reports it as GENERIC#1Cool
system is up and running. Created a non-root user in the wheel group, and
disabled root logins over the network. So, I went to the snapshots directory
on ftp.openbsd.org and got myself a copy of the ports tree (keeping in mind
the homily about not mixing versions in the installation instructions --
good job by whoever wrote them).

I tar-zxvf'ed it and tried to install bash (under shells/bash) using make
install (as http://www.seifried.org/oag/using-ports/ suggests).

The compilation goes through except at the end when the link crashes with :

: undefined reference to 'tgetflag'
collect2: ld returned 1 exist status
./lib/readline/libreadline.a(terminal.o)(.text+0x807): In function
'rl_backspace':
....
....
: undefined reference to 'tputs'
collect2: ld returned 1 exist status

etc. all while trying to link several functions in libreadline.a

stops at line 513 of Makefile and line 1716
of /usr/ports/infrastructure/mk/bsd.port.mk)

However, there is no ./lib directory in /usr/ports/shells/bash.

(I also get errors regarding server addresses ftp.cwru.edu (Attempting to
fetch /usr/ports/distfiles/bash/bash30-* from
ftp://ftp.cwru.edu/pub/bash/bash-3.0-patches/. wrong server: return code
must be 229).)

Since I took care that the snapshot that I installed from and the ports
tree were sync'ed, I guess there is another kind of versioning problem I
have on my hands. Did I need to do something else between unzipping the
ports tree and trying to install applications ? How are dependencies
checked ?

If you need any further info, please let me know.

Further, I also need a reference to a good packet filter reference for
webservers.
