I like these motherboards, and have built a few systems for use as low-
traffic servers for small business applications. At 1GHz, they excel at
some tasks (DNS, firewall, mail), but can be a little slow for others
(database-driven web sites under constant load). There's no question that
the models with DDR memory and faster IDE buses *feel* smoother, even with
the same processor.

If this is a workstation, get the best video option available, the base
models with 8MB shared video work great, but can show artifacts when
dragging windows around.

One important consideration is the power supply. I was surprised to
discover that the 60W power bricks (quiet, low consumption) tend to store a
little juice in them, making them particularly susceptible to brownouts.
Instead of shutting off instantly, they slowly lose power, which may be
enough to cause the server to stop responding, but not halt completely if
power is restored in a few seconds. While servers with conventional power
supplies are happily rebooting, these can be left in a state of limbo,
which is terrible if you administer them remotely. It also affects your
choice of UPS, because you want a *truly* uninterruptible power supply.

I'm interested in replacing my system, and I've been looking at getting
a system based on a VIA epia motherboard. I'm curious if anyone could

I am looking at PD motherboard with 2 interfaces. Does anyone know if
these motherboards have CPUs that support AES acceleration? I am also
wondering if I should wait for the CPUs that support RSA?

For the newest motherboard and chipset, does OpenBSD support SATA?

Thanks,
Dan
