a tape created on a SDLT320 using a SDLT110 drive?

Possibly Yes, but -generally speaking- if a tape drive will write to
a tape from a previous generation, then it will usually do so
in a compatible format.

However, you would have a better chance of getting an accurate answer
if you took this to a different newsgroup. SGI IRIX was never supported
as a server for HP Data Protector. If you just -happen- to be one
of the people using the (fairly uncommon) SGI Windows based systems,
then you need to mention that fact explicitly... and even then you
would probably have more success in a windows newsgroup.
