That must be new to 7.4, I've still got 7.3 here.

tripivceta@hotmail.com must be very confused. There isn't a documented
feature `-R' for the SGI or GNU compilers for that matter. On SGI, `cc -help'
lists a `-R' that has nothing to do with library locations. It is for `pass
flags to RATFOR'. I checked this on an SGI with the 7.4.3m compilers.
