I'm using Macs and some old SGIs in a network - but I don't use NIS. You
can enter a NIS server for authentication via the 'Directory Access'
application. Unfortunately there are serious issues with NIS and Tiger
due to problems with secondary group membership.

This should work, too. But it's not a very popular setup, as most people
want to use LDAP for SSL and Kerberos integration.

You can find very detailed "in-depth" information from Marcel Bresink at
<http://www.bresink.de/osx/nis.html>. There are some other ressources on
the web, but it's probably a better idea to start with that article and
ask specific questions in the newsgroups (maybe the comp.sys.mac.*
people can be helpful, too).

Dominik. |

Hello,
has anybody here already put MacOS X Macs into an IRIX net,
i. e. let Macs get their user info from an IRIX NIS server?
Or let the Mac users home directories reside on IRIX machines?
If yes: is there some howto anywhere to share eventually?
TIA
