Yeah I was certain that everything is configured correctly. Cleaning
the drive - I did this at the beginning of my tests
So, I just bought a new (used) cdrom (Toshiba XM-6401B) for $35 (ship.
incl.) on ebay and everything is allright now. Cdrom reads media just
fine:) !!!
Thanks guys for everything!
Best wishes,

Yes, I plugged this drive to Mac system - same results. Drive is listed
but it can't read any cd's (doesn't matter what type of data). Led is
blinking non stop and that's it.
Any thoughts?

Simple diagnostics would tell you that the drive seems to be dead. If it
doesn't work in more than one computer and you are certain that
everything is configured correctly, there is no other option assuming
you've cleaned the drive of dust, etc. |

Yes, drive is connected properly. It's first device in the chain
(second is tape drive) and the chain is properly terminated. SCSI ID
set on 4, ID for a tape drive set on 6. Using "hinv" - everything is
properly listed. When I insert a cd disc into this cdrom the LED starts
blinking and never stops, unless you press eject. I tried plugged this
drive as standalone (w/o tape device) but there is no difference.

As of 6/05, it wouldn't make the list. |

Problems with cdrom.

Hello,
I'm new lab technician and one of my job duties is bring to life an SGI
Octane. It haven't been used for at about month. I checked that there
is an Irix 6.5 installed on it. Everything seems to be ok except
external cdrom (Toshiba XM-6201TA). It can't read media. I was trying
to install a few graphic aplications, I inserted a music cd (cdda) -
nothing. Drive is trying to read media, light is blinking (non-stop)
and nothing is happening. When I click (right mose button) on the
cd-rom icon and choose open, I got message "Cd-rom drive is unloaded).
I've tried to connect this drive to old Mac - the same behaving - looks
like trying to attempt to path. So I assume that there is something
wrong with this cd but maybe someone has any hints or solutions? Thanks
in advance for any response.
