Thanks for the Input, at the moment I have it working. Before I shut down
last night I tried Mozilla under FVWM and still had the same problem. When
I came back in today, I read the replies, and had a look at the router I
re-saved the settings without alteration, other than the re-boot thats all
I did.
I hope some of the replies will be usefull to others with a similar problem.

On the same machine same connection Firefox under XP works fine, so my

I mailed ebay explained the problem, and what package I was using so
they sent me the details on how to set up IE (go figure), a hint from
the email suggests to me that it could be Java related.
I have run as root with no firewall and same problem so no issue with
rights etc.
I have SuSe 10.0 Running KDE 3.5, fully updated. I use a IBM Thinkpad
on a wireless network, linked to a LAN that goes out on a leased line
(I can't see that the server is the problem as only SuSe has this
issue)
Any suggestions, or am I alone with this problem?.
I have cleared cookies, History, Cache etc and only have this problem
on ebay.
Jem..
Just had a look, with my default settings, no images are shown on ebay,
either from Windows or Linux in Firefox.
Changing my settings allows the images to work. One of the settings in
Firefox is to disable images which do not come from the originating
domain.
It looks like ebay have offloaded their images to a secondary domain. If
you have the settings to disable external images, you won't see
anything. My guess is you have this switched off under Linux and not
under Windows.

Thanks for the reply,I have taken another look at the setting for
displaying images, but still no go my end, I tried assigning
pics.ebaystatic.com as a trusted site, Firefox just doesn't like this URL,
same for Konqueror, as the problem is on both browsers I have taken a look
at security setting, and anything relateting to web access in yast, but
nothing solves this problem, I wonder if it could be to do with KDE3.5.

Jem,
I've had the same problem, tried setting ebay as an exception using
several forms of the url, finally unchecked the "for the originating
website only" box, then no problems with ebay. Don't know why making them
an exception didn't work.

Hmm, I'm running Firefox 1.5 and KDE 3.5.1 here and it seems to work
fine - I have never used ebay, but images appear and the pages look
tidy without anything obvious missing - no bunched text, no image
icons where something hasn't been loaded. The same is true for Konq
here as well.
Switching on the security setting to not download images that don't
originate from the same domain bunches all the text up and splatters
the page with icons where images should be.
Are you running a firewall on SUSE? Is it possible that the images
site has been blocked by that for some reason?
Dave
Very odd, I noticed whilst browsing another site with an advert were
the image had not displayed, its link was an address not starting with
www, but I use a private site that starts redroom. so I am not
concluding that the address has anything to do with it, but it is a
common theme, I have tried running as root with firewall off, no luck.
It smells of a security setting just can't work out what.
Again thanks for the input

Are you accessing the Internet through a router? If so the router
firewall might be blocking something. On the other hand, since you can
see things on XP I suspect that is not the problem unless Firefox and
Konqueror are set to use a different port with Suse, and WinXP doesn't
use that port.
For instance some web based programs are set to run on port 80 but since
it is used by the system the host recommends setting the port to 8080.
If this is blocked by your router (though it usually isn't if security
is set to moderate or lower) then you might experience exactly what you
are experiencing.
On my brother's home network, his kids play online games like City of
Heroes. We had to set his router to allow those games. However when he
changed to fiber optic, the new router had the game ports automatically
open even though the security level was set to moderate. Routers must
be like the old 20 milliamp loop that connected one's personal computer
to a teletype machine -- even though they were 20 milliamp loops, each
was different and never the twain shall meet.
