If I understand correctly this will stop users that spoof
one of my
addresses from sending inbound, but won't alter relaying
to me when they
aren't spoofing is that correct?

That's right, smtpd_reject_unlisted_sender will only check
sender addresses that claim to use a domain you manage. If
the user exists, the mail is processed normally and checked
with any other restrictions you have defined. If the user
does not exist, the mail is rejected.

We periodically see this as well and the
"The sender domain matches $relay_domains but the recipient is not
listed in $relay_recipient_maps, and $relay_recipient_maps is not null"
statement seems to match my main concern.

reject_unlisted_sender rejects mail when the sender is in a domain
"listed" (I mean, users are listed: the corresponding map isn't set to
void) on postfix but the address doesn't exist. This includes
local_recipient_maps, relay_recipient_maps and virtual_mailbox_maps. One
caveat though is that wildcard virtual aliases and canonical break this
validation. |

You should reply and leave the message originally sent so you can see
everything at once.
How you described your problem may not be good, and so it may have not made
sense.
Please explain what the problem is and what you are trying to do.

Joey,

Are you allowing mail to relay based on the from instead of using
smtpauth or other methods?
|
I'm new to postfix and may not understand your question. The email is being
sent from somewhere else, has a forged from address, and my server as the
final destination. It's not being sent from my server. I don't think postfix
is looking at the from address at all. That's what I'd like it to check.

How do I kill spam that's forged as being from users who don't exist on my
server, that is, with a from line like bogus@mydomain.com? Further, what if
it's a virtual domain user not in my virtual file, that is,
bogus@myvirtual.com?
Thank you,
Robin |

You can set postfix to automatically reject mail claiming
to be from bogus virtual senders.
