Could there for example be any difference in an
1+1+1+1Gb config compared to 2+1+0.5+0.5Gb,
or is 4Gb always 4Gb?
Can there be any noticeble performance gain/loss
if the memory is not equally distributed.

You always want your memory to be as close as possible to the
CPU that is using it. Balancing memory is not necessarily
the best, as memory access is not necessarily balanced.

Your replies both make sense. As usuall it is pretty much
depending on the application.

Hello,

It's my understanding that having the memory evenly distributed across all
node boards gives you best performance. It's my impression that this would
reduce traffic on the mid/backplane.

Hi,

This probably mostly teoretical but still :-)

Then there is also the question if 4x256Mb is better
than 16x64Mb...except for future expansion...
