it seems to be fine in my Indigo2 R10k IP28 but
keeps telling me there´s a RO filesystem on it.

What am I missing eventually? It is reported as UDF,
and that ought to be a RW filesystem AFAIK.

You mean the Panasonic device?
Hm, isn't there a small write protect switch on the cartridge?

Some system software missing?

I only remember a patch for correct recognition of UDF filesystem

LF-D201 to be more precise.

yep. Tried me both positions and even _without_ the cartridge.

I only remember a patch for correct recognition of UDF filesystem

thanks, Tony. I remembered that one vaguely, too...

Hence my posting. Now where to obtain? How to install?

TIA

The usual way, from SGI. I am not sure but probabliy this is
IRIX Patch 5678 "UDF DVDRAM write issue" (do you use 6.5.22 or
something older?)

Toni

Thanks, Toni!

Now I have patch 5678 installed and found a file "formatRMedia"
in /usr/sysadm/privbin - which gives man info about its usage.

A little script in /usr/bin

#!/bin/csh
/usr/sysadm/privbin/formatRMedia -u -d /dev/rdsk/dks0d4vol -x

finally makes the right-click/formatDVD option functional.

IMO DVD-RAM is the perfect backup medium.

Which exact model was it?
What SCSI connections do you have on your Indigo2?
50pin?, 64pin?, 80pin?

If you have 50pin, my next question would be what
kind of a SCSI convertor you are using, because surely the
DVD device is either 64 or 80.

Thanks,

Duh! Sorry for the typo, 68, of course.

Who made it? I didn't think there æxist still models with 50 pins.

I have a LF-D103, Walther has the newer LF-D201 which reads larger
disks than mine but both have the 10Mbyte/s interface.

I naively thought I'll be able to find a place to buy lf-d201
(because I'm interested in your backup solution for my Indy,
it also has 50 pin scsi) but extensive googling found only
a lot of reviews but no place to buy.
eBay doesn't have it either.

Any idea where I could get it?

Thanks and best regards,

SCSI CD drives is more or less impossible to find, but a super Plextor

for IDE is easy and about $120 add a convert for $70.

I would assume that a brand new Plextor Like the 755 would work very
nice with a IDE to SCSI converter from Acard(like the AEC-7720U).

See links below

http://www.plextor.be/products/px-755a.asp?choice=PX-755A

/michael

PS note that they work for IDE disks aswell!!!

Pioneer DVR-100 is much cheeper and works perfect - but the best
converter for this purpose seems to be the AEC 7722 which is LVD. I use
it with my Octanes (one of them has a cardcage with LVD controller), it
works either SE or LVD.
I also tried AEC-7720U but was not that happy with it, but probably the
support for Plextor is better than for Pioneer or Toshiba (I also tested
R5372).

Try http://www.zsource.com/PRODUCTS/Panasonic/Panasonic_LF-D201/panasonic_lf-d201.html

They pretend to have "special pricing" on it.
