Latest HP Pavilion AMD64 laptops

I've seen where people have problems getting FreeBSD to run/install on
those. I just bought a DV8000, dual 80GB 5400 RPM HD's, 1 GB RAM, 2.2
GHz Turion64 processor. I've had problems with a number of OSes
actually, the exception being Gentoo/AMD64, and surprisingly, Solaris 10
actually installed/booted. But I did have problems with the following:
FreeBSD
NetBSD
Schillix 0.4
Solaris 11 (express/preview/whatever)
Basically, when I boot the 6.0-release (i386) install CD, I get
"elf32_lookup_symbol: corrupt symbol table". Booting the
6.0-RELEASE-AMD64 CD, I get a register dump going crazy scrolling all
over the screen immediately after /boot/loader.conf is loading. So, the
problem is evidently in the boot loader stage. I shall try a PXE boot
install next, although that might not work either, as it looks like a
loader compatibility problem somewhere.
This laptop was just released a couple of weeks back, and I snatched one
up. Basically, I can split up my Windows/unix stuff between the two
HD's. Stay tuned.
Anyone else buy one of these? Ah yeah, and it's got the ATI IXP disk
controller, too; I've heard those can be tough to support.
